Health and Medical

At the core of SM Foundation's health advocacy is the aim to provide a wide-range of medical and dental services to target beneficiaries. Since 2001, SM Foundation has brought these services to marginalized communities through its medical missions and its Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Program.

Medical Missions

SM Foundation provides free health services such as medical consultations, basic laboratory tests and dental check-ups to communities through its medical missions. In addition to this, SM Foundation also dispenses proper and complete dosages of medicines to its medical mission patients through its Gamot Para sa Kapwa medicine campaign.

Over the years, the program has been conducted in SM malls, Savemores, SM Hypermarkets, Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Centers and other institutionalized organizations and communities. To reach more locations especially those in the far-flung areas, SM Foundation makes use of its three mobile clinics.

In times of calamities, SM Foundation also conducts its medical missions in tandem with its immediate disaster response program, Operation Tulong Express (OPTE). In 2014, OPTE-medical missions were rolled out in 6 locations, namely in Haiyan (local name: Yolanda)-stricken areas (Cebu, Leyte, Samar and Iloilo), Cagayan De Oro and Cavite. The 23 OPTE-medical missions benefited 11,294 individuals.

In 2014, SM Foundation conducted a total of 118 medical missions, benefiting 105,936 patients.

By the end of the year, SM Foundation had rolled out 1,019 medical missions benefiting 813,685 patients nationwide since the program was put into motion.

Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Program

Since 2002, SM Foundation has ensured the health and well-being of those in communities where its malls operate by adopting and rehabilitating old and dilapidated health institutions and hospital wards under its Felicidad T. Sy (FTS) Wellness Program. These FTS Wellness Centers are composed of multi-health centers, pediatric wards, hospice units, senior citizen centers and health facilities for the military and police force.

FTS centers not only provide medical aid but also cater to the emotional needs of its patients through the creation of a better environment for healing and recuperation.

In 2014, SM Foundation completed 14 health centers, marking the milestone of its 101st FTS health center to date.

Also in 2014, SM Foundation completed the renovation and refurbishing of the Tacloban City Hospital, a special project under its Haiyan Rehabilitation Program, which sustained heavy damages from the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
